Mandolins

The name meaning ‘small mandola’ from the ‘lute’ family. The traditional design, a ‘flat-top’, also has a flat back, with a round or oval sound-hole. Mandolins are extremely versatile and are associated with all types of music. Generally plucked, and frequently using the technique called ‘tremolando’, a rapid alternation of the plectrum on a single course of strings. The 4 double courses of metal strings are tuned in unison like the fiddle GDAE.
